Detail area of a large mound of sulfur.

Sulfur is a by-product of oil refining and gas production. This mountain of sulfur was at the Hess refinery in St. Croix, US V.I.. The way that certain areas of the sulfur retained moisture and others dried combined with the way the sulfur pellets moved created this beautiful abstraction and range of rich color.

Abstract images from the world of industry create strong graphic and colorful statements.

Subjects from the world of industry offer a surprising collection of strong graphic and colorful images which bring surprising energy into a space. When the subject is abstracted as it is here the result can introduce ambiguity which activates the imagination and invites your own interpretation. Because of the elemental nature of the shapes and the richness of the color the image can be appreciated for its intrinsic beauty.

Design found within industrial subjects can be powerfully graphic and colorful. This image is a detail of a blade of a Pratt & Whitney commercial aircraft engine. A moire image is created across the surface of the blade to reveal any imperfections.

Serene night on the Gulf of Mexico

My friend and fellow photographer, Peter Silvia made an astute observation about a recently curated collection of my images showcasing water.

“You know Wayne these images of water are really about serenity”.

Images can be more about feeling than the fact of the subject.

This is particularly the case  when when we are in a state of union with the subject we are observing.

I hope when you look at the images I’ll share in the coming days you find that they give you a moment of serenity.

Artists who opened their studios today, Jan. 6, 2016 as part of the Sarasota Visual Artists Studios.
Other artist who participated but who I was unable to visit include:
Jorge Blanco, Bill Buchman, Tim Jaeger, Joseph Melancon, Tom Stephens.

The Open Studio Series is the 1st Saturday of the month January-April 11am-4pm.

This was a wonderful chance to see the Artists studios and hear what they want to say about their work.

It is a reminder that Sarasota is blessed to have so many talented and established artists. I hope this open studio series will expand awareness and appreciation of this treasure in our midst.

The next Open Studio is February 4. Put it in your calendar and when you go take your checkbook support the artists, enrich your life and bring beauty into your home with their creations.

Reflection of boats, Martinique

While scouting locations for a Nautica fashion shoot in Martinique I saw this wonderful play of color.  The color was from boats in the marina reflecting onto the surface of the water.

Flower Essence

About the Artist and this exhibition

The signature characteristic of Wayne Eastep’s photography is the ability to express the essence of a subject.  His images go beyond representational pictures to touch the spirit of the subject, evoking an emotional response.  In this exhibition he turns his attention to the exquisite design in nature  and inherent beauty within flowers.

Eastep’s images are commissioned and collected internationally. They garner awards for books, documentary, and commercial assignments.  His intention with each assignment is to go beyond the surface and look inside the subject.  Photography for Wayne is both vocation and avocation. He is driven by a passion for the art of image making.

Exhibition February 4 – May 14, 2015

Sunflower

The sunflower an annual plant is native to the Americas. The flower petals within the sunflower’s cluster are always in a spiral pattern. Generally, each floret is oriented toward the next by approximately the golden angle, 137.5 degrees, producing a pattern of interconnecting spirals, where the number of left spirals and the number of right spirals are successive Fibonacci numbers. This pattern produces the most efficient packing of seeds within the flower head.
