Photographer Wayne Eastep installing prints at Eastep Gallery

Photographer Wayne Eastep installing prints for the collection “The Living Seas” at Eastep Photography Gallery.

The exhibit of images will be on display December 22nd 11 am to 4 pm at 1338 Central Avenue Sarasota, Florida 34236.

The images are being offered to lift our spirits after the depressing experience with “red tide” along the coast of Sarasota in recent months.  These beautiful underwater images were photographed in the Carribean, the Florida Keys and the Gulf of Mexico. They show what a healthy marine environment looks like.

Arkansas, Thorncrown-Chapel, Eureka-Springs, Architecture

Architect E. Fay Jones designed Thorncrown Chapel, a wooden structure forty-eight feet high with 6,000 square feet of glass. Completed July 10, 1980, Eureka Springs, Arkansas

This is one of those spaces where the separation that is often created by architecture goes away.  Being in this environment gives one the feeling of a union between the outside and inside.  The vertical feature of the narrow columns creates a visual connection to the trunks of the trees which come up within feet of the glass walls.

I find that the pattern and relationship between nature and the architecture creates a visual tableau that becomes art.

This image will be shown on Saturday, June 30, 2018, with other prints exploring the concept of “Art Within Architecture”.   The exhibit will be at my Studio/Gallery, Eastep Photography which is part of Art Central.  Art Central is located at 1330-1340 Central Avenue, Sarasota, Florida 34236.  Two other artist’s Lucy Barber and Kathy Wright will also have open studio’s from 11 am to 4 pm.

Muqarnas, interior detail within the Khawaja Akmed Yesevi mosque, Turkestan, Kazakhstan

One of Central Asia’s largest domed mosques honors Khawaja Akmed Yesevi, the 12th-century Sufi mystic whose poetry and writings had a tremendous impact throughout that part of the world. It was commissioned in 1390 by Tamerlane, the Turkic conqueror, to honor Yesevi and serve as his mausoleum. The mosque was built in eight independent sections, which has helped it survive numerous earthquakes. the building measures 47.5 x 65.6 meters (152 x 215). Its walls are 2 meters (6.5 feet) thick and the central hall walls are 3 meters (10 feet) thick. The dome is 37.5 meters (123 feet) high and 18.2 meters (60 feet) in diameter. These elegant niche-like decorations just below the mausoleum’s dome are known as Muqarnas. They are an Islamic invention that reached a zenith around the 13th century. the delicate and soaring designs evoke Yesevi’s transcendent and complex poetry as well as the mystical ideas of Sufism. It is located in Turkestan in southern Kazakhstan.
